I know there are many people out there who have asked same question but everyone seemed to have different issues. I bought this laptop less than a week ago and had windows 8.
I upgraded to windows 10 and the problem occurs every time I start the laptop. The usage seems to be unassigned in the task manager. I looked at a few solutions, one of them included the one where it was mentioned that this a result of Google Chrome and Skype processes.
I do not have Skype and the Chrome fix was already implemented in the one that i was using. The person disabled Prefetch and Superfetch services as mentioned. Also I changed the values to "0" in regedit for both the enablers. Again, I am sorry for posting a similar problem. But considering how frustrating this is and that it still doesn't have any official solution, nothing seems wrong in posting it.

Step 1: First of all, take a note of the processes or applications that is running when the computer runs with high disk usage. Also, we need to find the applications that are running at startup. Follow the steps to check for the processes under Task Manager :. Check which process is utilizing the Hard Disk on Windows 8. The step 1 here was one of the most helpful suggestion I have seen. In my case, the culprit was ReadyBoost. I had enabled it in the past but the external SSD is no longer in the system. That it is taking minutes of disk spinning and providing me with no benefit is a self-making decision. I am down to 30 seconds of spinning and the program responsible for it is coming out in the near future as well. I have troubleshot this on a number of installs which received the inferior Upgrade install or even the vastly superior Clean Install Windows 10 Upgrade.
I've tried everything found in web searches for this problem multiple times. What ended up happening was that the disk usage settled down after various setup tasks, Indexing of all files, etc. None of this took more than a week.
It's still a bit of a bug because none of those processes can be pinned down as causing the high Disk Usage, but I'm almost certain that's what it is. Unless the hardware is very old, or the install is terrible, then it does settle out and rarely flares up again IME. You can go over your install with the Windows 10 Install Integrity Checklist. You can get the best possible install which is never the in-place Upgrade or Factory Install following Clean Install Windows 10 Upgrade just like tens of thousands who have done so without a single complaint.

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps. Click on Processes tab. Check if any of the processes consumes high memory usage. Bad sectors on the hard drive can be a cause for high disk usage. Open Task Manager and click on Details tab. Right click the columns headers and click " Select Columns ". Now the columns will be added to the view and will display how much each process is utilizing from the hard disk.
